DJ Aktive Interview

Interview w/DJ Aktive (of the Skratch Makaniks)
by: Justin Weleski

Heavy, heavy touring, mix-tapes, satellite radio, working on a solo album, international DJ gigs, weekly clubs, and finding time to eat and sleep, is pretty much the life of DJ Aktive. One of the hardest working DJ’s not only in Philly, but to the international world of hip hop. Aktive has been paying dues for as long as I’ve been able to sneak in the clubs with a fake ID. The mans done it all from winning national DJ battles, to being the official tour DJ for some of hip hop’s biggest acts. We got a chance to meet up w/DJ Aktive while at home for a short stay, as he hits the road again with Def Jam’s newest artist: Sterling Simms

Interview w/Sean Price
by: Justin Rizzio

Whether you know him as Ruck from Heltah Skeltah, or just met him now as Sean Price, there is no question that “the brokest rapper you know” is still holding it down. As one of the busiest members of Boot Camp Clik, over the past 3 years Sean P has released mix tapes, two solo albums, and a DVD. Not to mention the latest BCC record and several guest appearances. Most recently, he is wrapping up his tour along with Philly’s own Reef the Lost Cauze and headliners, Jedi Mind Tricks. We caught up with Sean backstage after his performance at the Trocadero Theatre Saturday April 21st, to find out more about Ruck, Sean Price, and the more mature “Jesus Price Superstar”.

Wordplay w/mc ELIXIR (F.A.M./Skratch Makaniks)
by: Deesha Dyer

When I heard that MC Elixir was part of the Skratch Makaniks crew, I was slightly confused because I know he doesn’t know how to DJ. Or I don’t think he does. Then I was told he serves as the vocal element at the parties, hyping people up and keeping the energy of the crowd moving. Meanwhile, he continues to work on his album that will be out sometime in the near future. I caught up with him for a few seconds in hopes to reveal to you a little bit more about the voice on the mic.

DJ Excel Interview

Interview w/DJ Excel (Skratch Makaniks)
by: Justin Weleski

If you live in Philly and follow the hip hop culture or just even listen to rap music, this man needs no introduction. But we’ll give one anyway for those who visit the site from other parts of the country. A founding member of the Skratch Makaniks; DJ Excel has been doing gigs, traveling the country on tours, and doing commercial radio for well over 7yrs. In my eyes and in the eyes of many others, he passed legendary status years ago in Philly. But Excel shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. We got a chance to meet up with him to discuss his plans for the future, his rap career, his crew, and how much this four party series means to him.

Wordplay w/DJ KD
By: Deesha Dyer

Continuing on the Skratch Makaniks theme, this week Wordplay features DJ KD. I know I said I don’t know much about none of them, except for the basic mixtape and production knowledge, but this DJ, I truly knew nothing about. That made reading his answers enjoyable and actually made me want to check out his skills. Be sure to listen to his remix of “Guess Who’s Back”, and don’t forget that he’ll be spinnin’ this week at Bamboo with the lovely Sat One.

Wordplay w/ DJ Ultraviolet
by: Deesha Dyer

As an admitted feminist I could easily turn this intro into some pro-women steez, but I won’t. Partially because the gender doesn’t really as much as her ability to rock a party. DJ Ultraviolet has made a name for herself spinning at all types of events around the city. She helped start up the bi-monthly Ladies Love Hip-Hop party and always makes sure to represent properly on the wheels. For a few minutes she decided to step from behind the turntables and shows the silly ass side behind that ice grill she flexes when DJ’ing.

Looking for a dope DJ to lay down some cuts on your next track? Ya got a budget? Well, here’s your guy! DJ Kwestion has battled his way to the top and is now the official DJ for hip hops indie kings; Jedi Mind Tricks.
