Interview w/ Caen Project
By: Justin Rizzio
Go to enough hip hop events and you’re guaranteed to come home with a pocket full of fliers not to mention the occasional CD. When a CD does get handed to you, most likely you give it a quick listen and then throw it in some drawer of your house never to be seen again. But then there is that rare instance; that one time out of 20 (being generous with 20) that you really like what was handed to you. With that I introduce you to Philadelphia’s own CAEN Project, made up of MC Equinox and producer Cimer Amor. On their recent release, Caesar’s Vengeance, Cimer manages to provide the perfect backdrop to compliment Equinox as he supplies us with both aggressive street narratives and his own introspective struggles. So take the time to learn more about Cimer Amor, Equinox, and the CAEN Project.

215hiphop: For those that don’t know, tell us who you are and what you do.
Cimer Amor: We are CAEN Project, comprised of me, Cimer Amor, CA the producer.
Equinox: EN, Equinox the emcee. We do what the fuck we feel like and make good music.
Cimer: We have been inspired by the classics, but believe in pushing the boundaries of what is so called HIP HOP.
215: How did you two decide to make this record together?
Nox: We were both frustrated with opportunities at hand and decided to join forces with hopes to achieve our goals in quicker time span.
Cimer: At a time when no one seemed to take us serious, we decided it was the best option to collaborate as CAEN Project.
215: The album is called Caesar’s Vengeance. What exactly does that mean and can you describe the record?
Cimer: We have common ancestry, Italian, and we consider ourselves kings of our own destiny, which makes us Caesars. Frustrated with the game and opportunities, when we joined together, we decided to convey the frustration into our music. Vengeance is the hunger you hear in our beats and rhymes.
Nox: I describe it as pure emotion, raw talent, and hunger all wrapped up into one message; we will not be stopped.
215: I noticed that this project has quite a few guest appearances. Who are some of them and how did you go about choosing who to collaborate with?
Cimer: Since our initial plans, where I was gonna do a producers album with collaborations, and Nox a solo album, we decided it was better to combine the two ideas.
Nox: Besides, all our features are our family anyways. Everyone we got down with was QD or some how associated with them.
Cimer: I brought my peoples Side Effect, eNeM the Great, Granz, Skip, and Kwestion to the project. Everyone gelled and it made sense.
215: Philly has more than it’s share of aspiring rappers and producers. How do you plan on setting yourself apart from the masses?
Nox: We just focus on being ourselves. By doing that, we set ourselves apart.
Cimer: We’re not following trends or gimmicks, just doing what comes natural.
215: For those reading about you for the first time, tell them what to expect from this album.
Cimer: For people to know who Cimer and Equinox are, and that we are here to stay.
Nox: They should expect the unexpected. Its like a roller coaster, there’s pieces of rage as well as pieces of our hearts.
215: What do you hope to accomplish with this album?
Nox: We are shooting for the stars, but what ever comes of it is a plus. We are using this as a stepping stone to further our career in this music business.
Cimer: Since we are doing everything ourselves, every ounce of recognition is motivation that we are doing it the right thing. Keeps us motivated to grind it out.
215: Plugs or shout outs?
Nox: Shout out to Q-Demented clique and everyone that supported us through the journey of making this album. Look out for the Equinox solo jawn Order of Balance dropping early 09, as well as the Q-Demented album currently in the works, and the Equinox and Killer Rellik presents Contract Killers mixtape. Poynt Blanc bitches.
Cimer: To everyone that helped us on our the album. Mad1 the bol that helped us out behind the scenes and there at every session. Scott Stallone, he makes me a better producer. My peoples tim at studio-monkeys.com helping us out with the art work. My brother Pat, and girlfriend April, helping us out financially, and my cousin locked up in FDC. Free Extra! Ugly Squad! And check out for free mixtape of remixes I will put out soon as well as, a collection of unreleased songs that I produced entitled Taking No Where Some Where.
