Wordplay w/Kenneth Masters
By: Deesha Dyer

Kenneth Masters is a character. I first heard of him when he was with Arrakis, and to be honest, I thought all those dudes were a bit strange for my tastes, so I never paid attention, but as the label is now gone KMass remains. I have only seen him perform once or maybe twice, but his name randomly pops up on flyers that seem to make their way to my email or hands. His new solo EP, Jetset Stereo boasts production from Cramske, Snuff, and H. Brycon, as well as a collabo with Reef The Lost Cauze. Check it out when you get a chance, and check the WORDPLAY now…

1. Are you one of those guys that wears tight ass shirts?
Nope, and no tight pants. I wear clothes that fit comfortably. Not too baggy and not to tight.

2. What age group do you think has it the worst in this country today?
Ages 5 - 21 or ages 50-80
I think the 5-21 has it the worst. Our morals are in decline. There are no more standards it’s just a “Get yours! Fuck everybody else!” mentality now-a-days.

3. How many times have you punched someone in the face?
If I gave a rough estimate I’d say over 50 times. I used to be wild as a young cat.

4. Will you take a girls number even if you have no plans of calling?
Probably. Depends realy, but usually the path of less resistance leads to less drama so yeah. But this is purely situational.

5. When was the last time your checking or savings account was negative?
Definitly 3-4 weeks ago.

6. What is the last 3 things you spent money on?
An enchilada platter with green sauce. Cvs brand eye drops. Tickets for the Bourne Ulitmatium.

7. What percent of strippers do you actually think are using that money for college?
On a global basis? I’d have to say at least 50-60%.

8. When was the last time you cooked something for someone else?
March or April.

9. How many friends do you have on MySpace?
1200

10. And how many of those people do you actually know?
400 of them I have actually met real life in person, or see on occasion from time to time. True story.

11. Have either of your parents ever seen you perform?
Both of them at least once. But not more than 5 times.

12. If you could live anywhere else on the East Coast, where would it be?
Miami.

13. What game show do you think you could easily win?
That pop-culture show that’s on VH-1. I forget the name. I’m a walking pop culture genius.

14. How old were you when you first had sex?
15 it was the last week of summer before my sophomore year in highschool.

15. If you found out that the girl you are or were sleeping with was pregnant, what would be your first reaction?
Another situational case. But no matter what I’d ask her what she was thinking about doing. And then take it from there.

16. How many times on average do you cuss in a song?
Not too much on avg. I’d say less than 3 times. And that’s even a lot.

17. Fiddy: Gay, Straight, or Bi?
I don’t really care. But for conversational purposes I’d say he’s bi.

18. Queen Latifah: Gay, Straight or Bi?
Hmmm…bi.

19. Are you allergic to any food?
Well milk makes me kind of sick. But that’s just milk and when it’s in ice cream.

20. Do you have any magazine subscriptions?
Sport Illustrated, Vibe, and Entertainment Weekly.

I’ve been following this guy ever since I got a hand on his last Ep “Independent As Fuck” I also have seen him perform a bunch back in the day at Silk City a couple different times. He’s pretty dope, but I’m biased because I’m mos def a fan. I don’t know too much about his Dj. Is that the guy he did the “Premium Underground” record with? If so that’s cool, I enjoyed that record. Mostly for K-mass though. His concept songs are simple shit that almost everyone can relate too. I’m not too into his older “battle” stuff. But that whole scene is just tired as a whole. As for ASK? I can guarantee you that this kid probably knows his shit about POPULAR culture. I’ve met him a couple times, but listening to his song “T.V. REALITY” makes me think he watches mad television or just has too much time on his hands. Just because he doesn’t know the name of the show doesn’t mean he doesn’t know the subject matter.. I mean is that show even popular? I’ve never heard of it.
